Georgian prominent (Hyperaeschra georgica), #7917

I found this large caterpillar (about 3-4cm) on a bur oak. I was turning over leaves looking for insects, caterpillars in particular as many species are associated with oaks, when I touched this guy. I didn't see it at first, just felt something soft and squishy! It was lying along the length of the rib of a leaf it had consumed.

Great example of effective camouflaging with the leaves and the branch. Very cool image. "V"
