Burnt Lands Provincial Park. This is a gall on a willow stem, caused by a tiny fly in the Cecidomyiidae family, Rabdophaga rigidae. I thought the gall was empty, as many of the others had exit holes in them, so I cut off the top of this one, only to find the larva of the fly still inside. The larva is the tiny orange thing in the gall.
