Beaked hazel (Corylus cornuta)

This is the seed flower of the hazel shrub, a common native shrub of woodlands. The pollen flowers appear in catkins. This seed flower is quickly replaced by the leaves, and so there is just a very short window of opportunity to see these delicate red flowers. Mer Bleue Conservation Area.
