Sawfly (Tenthredo basilaris)

Mer Bleue conservation area. This sawfly on goldenrod looked very wasp-like to me, but thanks to the folk at Bug Guide, I now know it is is fact a sawfly. Sawflie, however, are in the same Order as Wasps and Bees, the Hymenoptera. They don't sting!

If I saw this I would assume it could sting. It really does look like a wasp. Fabulous, detailed capture. V.

It does use that aggressive look to its protective advantage.
