Rose curculio (Merhynchites bicolor)

Found in Rockcliffe Park. There were quite a few of these brilliantly coloured weevils on some roses in the park. The larvae apparently develop in rose hips.

What an odd placement of antennae on this weevil. He must get a better signal and picture with them placed out front like that than other weevils!

Now that you've mentioned the larvae apparently develop in rose hips I wonder if that's what made my last cup of rose hip tea tasted soooo goood! ;)
