Photographed along a rail trail in the city's east end, near Mer Bleue bog. These small hover flies are distinctive for their elongated abdomen. Their larvae are predators of aphids, so they are a good fly to encourage into your garden!
Wow, super detail and beautiful closeup! I don't know much about insects and try to keep as far away from them as I can, but it looks more like a bee than a fly to me! V.
