These are early returning migrants, often found while there is still lingering snow on the ground. I photographed this at the Fletcher Wildlife Garden, where they are abundant at the moment. Eventually most will move on to other nesting sites, but 4 or 5 pairs will remain to nest in the 15 acre site.
