Confused haploa (Haploa confusa), #8112

A collage of this boldly patterned moth. I love their triangular shape and striking patterns. They are called confused haploa, not because they are confused, but because the variation in their pattern confuses us! Here are two of the more common variations. Their larvae (caterpillars) are feeding on hound's tongue, a non-native plant that they seem to enjoy. It is on this plant that I usually find them at the Fletcher Wildlife Garden.

The caterpillars are similar but the moths are very different. Wonderful composite and interesting commentary. V.
