Tachinid fly (Gymnosoma)

Found this small (6-10 mm) fly (in the Family Tachinidae), on some asters today under sunny skies and unbelievably warm temperatures of +22 celsius. If you don't like stinkbugs, you'll love this fly, because it is a parasite of stinkbugs, helping to control the numbers of these bugs. The flies lay their eggs on stinkbugs, and then go off and nectar on flowers.

I have nothing against stink bugs this little one is much prettier. Very interesting too. Looks almost like a lady bug with wings. V.

It has been windy and cold here today. It was gorgeous yesterday. :-) 80F.
It looks a lot like a ladybug. I have never seen one of these before. Nice close up capture and details V

+22? I hate you. We've got 10cm of snow and haven't seen the sun in a week and a half. In fact, it's snowing now with more to come.
