Primrose moth (Schinia florida) #11164

I was surprised to come across a pair of primrose moths in September, as I'd not seen any adults since early August, but had seen lots of their caterpillars. These moths are a spectacular colour, and can be found around the native evening primrose plant (Oenothera biennis), usually with their head stuck well down into the flower. The caterpillars feed on the seeds of the plants.

It certainly is a spectacular color. They are beautiful and so vivid for moths. Love the furry heads too. V.

We had a good many attracted to our lights at the doors last week. It is odd timing.

As Irene did I thought it was all flower until I focused on it.
Such a lovely shot of the two.

At first I thought the moths are the petals of the flower - what a wonderful colour they have...
