Feather legged fly (Trichopoda plumipes)

Mer Bleue area

This lovely fly is in the Family Tachinidae. It derives its name from the long plumes on its legs, here, hidden by the wings (to see a photo of the plumes, http://www.pbase.com/image/138420716). At least one species of the Trichopoda, has been used as a biocontrol agent for stink bugs.

I like his shininess and stripes. And I did look at the feathered leg photo and it's really different from the simplicity of this image. Superb detail. V.
