Hitched arches caterpillar (Melanchra adjuncta), #10292

This caterpillar can be either green as here, or brown. They are found on a variety of plants, this was on an elm. The adults are handsomely patterned in black and white.

Beautiful shot. I found this same caterpillar 8/28/2012 near Edmonton, AB. First time I've seen it & I've been here for 20+ years! Incidentally, what appears to be its head is actually its tail. Thank you for capturing and posting this photo!
