Black saddlebags (Tramea lacerata)

Found today just south of the Ottawa River. This is a rare immigrant to our area, and is the first I've seen in Ottawa (but I have seen them in southern Ontario in large numbers). It is not a great photo, and although I waited, watched and followed this odonate for some time I never managed more than a couple more shots.

I find this a great species with explicit markings on the wings and abdomen. For the moment it is very hot here(too hot)

We have 59 species of dragonflies but none of them have so wide hindwings than this! Fantastic species and great shot!

Looks good to me too. Great look at the structural members of the wings. V

"odonate"--- improving entomological vocabularies too. Thank you, Christine.
