Fruit fly (Euaresta bella) on common ragweed

These tiny flies, a few mm in size, are closely associated with the ragweed plant (Ambrosia artemisiifolia), notorious for causing hay fever in summer. In fact, according to Bug Guide, this plant is the only known host species for this little fly. It is probable that they help control the spread of the plant. I find them absolutely exquisite with their big green eyes, yellow head and very pretty wings.

Very interesting. The ones I've seen are always beating their wings! Is that characteristic this fly?
