This very waspy fly belongs to the Conopidae family, most members of which are mimics of Sphecid wasps, the thread-waisted wasps. And doesn't this fly look like a wasp? Amazing. These are pretty common little flies (about 8 mm) usually found nectaring on flowers. Photographed at Nortel woods.
