Eastern amberwing (Perithemis tenera)

This species has very recently turned up in eastern Ontario, not having been found in the area before (as far as anyone knows). I heard yesterday that it had been spotted at Petrie Island and this morning went down to try and locate it. Eventually, I saw two of these vividly orange males; the species is small for a dragonfly at about 22mm. They land occasionally but usually out of camera range, so I had a terrible time getting photos. This photo does NOT show the amazingly bright orange wings. I'll have to go back and try again.

I love this species. They are very small indeed but they look so marvellous.

It is still a detailed and wonderful close up. I love the cellophane look of the wings and I do see some orange accents on them. V.

A cracking image nonetheless, you even managed a wing shadow.
