Star-bellied orbweaver (Acanthepeira stellata), female

Another photo, this time a side view, of this unusually shaped spider. This species is distinctive with its thorny projections and somewhat star-shaped pattern on the abdomen. This female was about 12mm in size, not counting her legs which were pulled in underneath her. The next image shows why she is called "star-bellied".
