Orange Peel sac fungi (Aleuria aurantia)

Although this cluster of orange peel fungi looks almost scarlet in the shade, those in the sun were a vivid orange, so their common name is an apt one. There were hundreds of them of various sizes, from minuscule to about 1.5 inches across. They were on a damp, sandy section of a trail through Larose Forest, which is just the sort of location these particular sac fungi like to grow.

I love these little ones. They are so bright and colorful and the cups remind me of something for the fairies. Beautiful shot Christine.
