Bee Wolf (Philanthus)

Fletcher Wildlife Garden

Found on goldenrods. These wasps are called bee wolves (a bit confusingly) because they prey on bees as well as on other wasps, which they store in their nests for their young to feed on.

Beautiful, funny how you are getting me to enjoy the looks of bugs...and to find them fascinating to view. I like this one's yellow girdle (to hold the tummy in?) and it matching neck collar.

Superb shot Christine...they look similar to jumping ants (except for the wings of course), do they sting humans? v
