Green-patched looper moth (Diachrysia balluca) #8897

A strikingly coloured moth that was resting first on a hosta leaf and then on a piece of wood in my garden. When I first saw it, it appeared to be dark brown and beige, but in the light, metallic green and purple hues shone. This moth is in the Noctuidae Family.
