I chose this topic for today, but am not entirely sure just when National Wildflower Week occurs. Nonetheless, in this challenge we can pick any theme anytime, so I went with this and photographed this Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) at the Fletcher Wildlife Garden today. This is a native species that is one of the first flowers to bloom in spring, one of the many wildflowers called spring ephemerals, because they bloom before the leaves are on the trees and then vanish almost completely, not even leaves can be seen in many cases.
