Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis)

These native wildflowers are usually in flower by now. In fact, last year with our early spring, they were over and done with by this date. This year they are just beginning to emerge. Here, the bud is up but not yet open.

Gorgeous with the drops of water and the unfurled leaf that hugs the delicate stem! The flower almost appears to be growing forth with a conscious caution! It is interesting to see that the buds emerge with a bit of pink in them.

This is gorgeous! The water droplets really make the photo, but the lovely colour of the bud and the heavily veined leaf are wonderfully captured. Really lovely image. V.
