Monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus)on Joe-pye-weed

Taken at the Fletcher Wildlife Garden. According to a listserv that tracks Monarchs, the butterflies are starting to move locally, from their Mexican wintering site. It is still snowy and cold here, as it will be for a long time yet. I don't think we'll see any Monarchs until late May at least. I am hoping we'll see more than we have the last few years.

I've heard that Texas should get more than usual this year. Migration path was altered because of the jet stream. I'm hoping to see lots of them! Excellent photo! V
