Black arches (Melanchra assimilis), #10295

This was taken in Larose Forest. The Asteroid caterpillar is typically found on asters and goldenrods, of which there was an abundance nearby. This one was moving around, so I think he was heading to a nearby aster plant. Nearby was another Asteroid caterpillar, that one bright green and yellow. They occur in several different colour forms and we were lucky to see two of the colour forms in close proximity.
