Young Meadow Vole

This very small young vole was sitting in the service road at the Fletcher Wildlife Garden. I was watching him when suddenly a dog came running up and was about to pounce. I scooped up the little guy who had at first headed back to safety but then seemed to freeze at the approach of the dog. Once the coast was clear, I put him back in the grass off the road.

How cute is that?!? I haven't seen a vole in years. I used to see them at my last house a lot but we were right next to fields there. Very sweet!

How adorable this little fellow is! I've never seen one out in the open for any length of time, so to be able to pick one up is just amazing! V

Super cute! Isn't it nice having opportunities to help nature?

This is too cute!! Great story. This would be a very memorable experience for me. I've never known a vole to allow itself to be picked up like this. I'd be a bit tempted to take the vole home and keep it and its cuteness!

A cat snack! Laughing at Cindi, my cat (years ago) would bring 1/2 of the kill home and put it in my bed. :)

To see another day; nice. And the scale of size against your hand; a tiny fellow indeed.

He's pretty cute! You did a good thing. when they pop up out of the ground at my sister's house the cats kill them. It makes me sad! She finds the heads.

Nice shot and you most certainly did your good deed for the day, Christine!
