This is the most amazingly beautiful field! I have never seen so many brown-eyed susans in one place! Perfect habitat for the Gorgone Checkerspot. However, these butterflies seem to appear and remain in such an area for a year or two or three and then vanish, possibly reappearing again in future years, but maybe not. One could easily check dozens of fields of the Brown-eyes susans, as Peter, the fellow who found them here, did, and not come across a single checkerspot! Why one field and not another? Who knows.
