Small milkweed bug (Lygaeus kalmii)

Found at the Fletcher Wildlife Garden. This is one of many species that makes good use of our Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca). The others connected almost exclusively to this plant are Milkweed Beetle, Milkweed Leaf Weevil, and Milkweed Leaf Beetle. But of course, the best known insect connected to the milkweed is the iconic Monarch butterfly!

Terrific shot and info Christine. You sure know how to find, capture and ID these little bugs.
