Black swallowtail (Papilio polyxenes)

There were two of these nectaring on a big stand of sow-thistle (Sonchus) at the Fletcher Wildlife Garden. There were moving constantly, landing only for the briefest of seconds to sip nectar, wings fluttering furiously. I'm surprised I got any photos!

What a magnificent capture. I think that the black swallowtail must be one of the most beautiful of all, enchanting subject and composition. VVV

This is a super photo of this species! What I really like is how the hindwing is very sharp while there is some motion blur on the forewing to illustrate how this species is open seen when perched: with the wings beating wildly. So you've caught sharpness and action all in one! And the color on the hindwing really pops. Well done!

Well you got a nice one Christine. Butterflies can be most frustrating subjects.
