This is one of the very few Monarchs I have seen this year, and it was thus unusual to see him so late in the year. I think I can count on two hands the number of observations during the entire summer of 2009. I say "him" because this was a male, which, if you could see his upper side you'd know, as there were two scent glands on his wings, indicating a male Monarch.
