The road through this area is an unmaintained road allowance. Beavers have long since set up here and have industriously created dams in several locations, hence the flooding. This is just becoming an extension of a large swamp/cattail marsh to the right of the photo. It is still possible to get to higher, drier ground about 1 km away, by wading through the water or skirting around it on the left or right. The wetlands created by the beavers are fantastic for all sorts of insects and interesting plants.
