Goldthread (Coptis trifolia)

Right underneath the tree where the firefly larvae were, I spied this clump of Goldthread plants. They derive their name from the fact that their roots are very, very golden in colour and very threadlike! They bloom in early spring and then vanish, but their glossy leaves are evergreen remaining all year, even under the snow.
