According to a city web site, there are two "Avenue(s) of Trees" to memorialize Kansas City's losses in the First World War,
one by the Liberty Memorial and this one along Ward Parkway between Meyer Boulevard and 75th Street.
Who knew? (I certainly didn't.)
Once again, according to the web site, the gateway, of which this eagle is a part, and 440 trees in this space
"were dedicated to the men and one woman from Kansas City, MO killed in WWI."
The names of the dead are listed on several plaques in the gateway.
