The Van de Velde weekender

The Everglades, Leura, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia view map

The house at Everglades was built in the 1930s as a weekend retreat where
Henri Van de Velde could entertain guests in peaceful garden surroundings
with wonderful views. It is described in the brochures as "functionalist
in form with Mediterranean influences. Interiors are Art Deco." It was
extravagantly modern then and the features and furnishings of its time have
been retained or recreated by its National Trust owners. Visitors are not
allowed to use the original bathrooms but are allowed to look and be amazed.
