Bee in an unidentified tree

Watsons Bay (suburban Sydney) view map

A visitor from England asked me what the tree was, and I couldn't tell him, but
I undertook to post a picture here so someone could tell me. The bee is a bonus.

2023: Fifteen years later, I think I've identified the tree:
it's a Norfolk Island hibiscus (Lagunaria patersonia).
