Before there were railways, bullock teams went this way, and a town was surveyed
here on the assumption that the railway would go the same way. Two substantial
buildings were started. But the railway ended up somewhere else, and the buildings
were abandoned. Simmonston is not so much a ghost town as a town that never was.
