Once a railway town where lines of different gauges met and a peak population of 2000,
now with a declared population of just 150, it still supports a visitor centre, a fine
two-storey pub, a main street lined with old shops like this, a building which once
housed an experimental eye hospital, a new public toilet block, and five museums.
Another claim to fame is that Douglas MacArthur made his "I shall return" speech
here. Of lesser importance is that I stopped here and parked in the main street.
