Nepean River at Agnes Banks
view map
Upstream from Windsor the Hawkesbury is called the Nepean. This is because the river was named by
two different white explorers in the 1790s who didn't know they had found the same river. This area,
just above the Yarramundi bridge over the Nepean, was mucked around with in the 1950s when gravel
was extracted from the river and transported by a cableway upstream to make concrete for the
Warragamba Dam. In spite of this, it is a peaceful home to ducks, fish and tortoises. And no water-skiers!
Note 23/06/08: This area has been partly cleared. These trees are no more.
