Mount Banks is one of a few peaks in the Blue Mountains with a basalt cap, so the vegetation on top is
different from that on the sandstone that makes up most of the Blue Mountains plateau. It's spectacular
country. Drive up Bells Line of Road, turn off at the Mount Banks sign, a short gravel road takes you to
a small carpark and picnic area. A fire trail continues for miles but there is a locked gate. A walk to
the top takes an hour, but don't bother - the best views and the best wildflowers are from half-way up.
