Mashpi Lodge

It's a long drive from Quito to the cloud forest resort at Mashpi, the last section
being on a narrow rough dirt road through the jungle. The building features vast walls
of glass, which were brought in when the road was even rougher, we were told. Just a
few were broken. Our stay here was memorable for many reasons: the luxury of this
improbable building, the birds, the rain, the exertion, the gumboots, and – oh! –the food.
