This giant almost knocked me over yesterday while walking in the garden. I thought
the one I posted a couple of days ago was large, but this is the Daddy !! Body length around 20mm (¾ inch approx )
Note it's wearing a yellow jacket too. Again it was hard to get a clear image as they dart so quickly from flower to flower. Put the camera into continuous mode & just kept shooting.

nice detail!

Perfectly captured Laine! Looks big enough to knock a few flowers down. All your flowers are causing the bees to expand!

An acrobat bee. Lovely.

P.S. I should have checked out the original view first -- it's quite impressive in that size. Great macro!
Carmen29-Oct-2004 04:12
Holy cow, it's huge! That was my first reaction too. Quite proud of its wingspan, isn't it. Looks like a cargo plane of some sort. Beautiful capture on a tough subject -- the color is great also. You know, I wonder where bumblebees live -- they don't have hives and honey or anything...hmm.

HOLY smokes.... I could eat you alive. GREAT shot, Laine.

Wow Laine, I think this one is on steroids or something, your caption (as usual) made me LOL, you are just toooo funny. A wonderful capture, the focus is great, really, and wow, what vivid colors too.

This is beautiful! The colors are awesome and the perceived size of the bee is amazing.

I just love the composition and colors here!

Very clear and sharp photo, but I hope it is only 20mm, not 20cm long. Otherwise there is a movie somewhere about giant killer bees. LOL
Guest 28-Oct-2004 22:01
