This is a covered Tapsel gate because it swings on a central axel. Often referred to as a Lychgate because it is covered. This gate is mentioned in the Domesday book.
It is where numerous couples including my sisters and brother have had their wedding photographs taken. The church of St Mary's Hayes Middlesex where this gate is located dates to the 11th century.
