Open-air salt harvesting along a cliff in the mountains of Peru. Salt-laded water coming up out of the ground is channeled by gravity into shallow ponds carved into a cliff. The water in the ponds evaporates, leaving salt to be swept up and sold at market. Different families own and operate their own collection of ponds. The panoramic view provides a sense of the huge scale of the operation.
