Mount Gardner is the tallest mountain on Bowen Island, a 20 minute trip from Horseshoe Bay. In September of 2004, some friends, my brother, and I decided to do this hike on a whim. We walked on to the Ferry to the island and then made the 2km hike to the trailhead, passing by Lake Killarney. On the hike up we passed though rain forest, pine forest, and then some alpine. At the top of the mountain, there is a clearing with 2 helicopter pads. We came on a clear day so we had a clear view of the city which was stunning. However, this was by far the toughest/most technical hike I've been on - with some scary moments. Not for the faint of heart or unprepared.
