Elne is located in the plain of Roussillon, on left bank of Tech, which separates its territory from those of Palau-LED-Vidre and Argelès.
This was the base of our travels for the first week. I had a lovely room at a renovated bed & breakfast with a balconey view of the cathedral. Our host, Didier and his family were so kind and treated us with true french hospitality and homecooked food.
The high city of Elne, whose streets all were renovated these last years, contains, in addition to the cathedral, the ruins of the old episcopal palate and the convent of the capuchins. One will visit there also the museum devoted to the painter Etienne Terrus, native of Elne and friend of the Maillol sculptor, who represented it in bust: this bust is exposed in the open air, near the cathedral, just like the statue of Pomone of the war memorial, another work of Maillol.
