Take Me Home, Country Roads

June 20 is West Virginia Day celebrating the day it gained statehood as a seperate state from Virginia.

The wild rhododendron is the state flower. This delicate plant grows in jungles in the woods. The branches are easily broken and the flowers bloom in June for only a few days.

Yet, year after year, it not only survives the harsh Appalachian winters, it sends out new roots through the rocky mountainside soil.
