New Coat

West Virginia

Every once in a while you meet someone you immediately connect with. It was like that with Jake. When I introduced myself and caught that twinkle in his eyes, it was like I'd known him all my life.

And he was ornery. When I tried to photograph him he refused to cooperate. He kept making horrible faces and opening his mouth full of food. I was lucky to get one decent shot.

A song for you, Jake. Enjoy the new coat.

Two Coats
(Traditional)

Two coats were before me
An old and a new
I asked my Sweet Master
Oh what must I do

I'll tell you the best thing
I ever did do
I took off the old coat
And put on the new

Thank you for the wonderful tribute to my father-in-law. I don't think we met during his stay in CCU. You have really captured the character of Jake. I have several pictures of him when that twinkle in his eye was in full force. Thanks again.

35 years in a coal mine...My God! I wouldn't even go in one! His time as a miner was long before the automated processes currently used - before respirators or any other protective equipment was even thought of. I was a hard rock miner underground for 21 years. Its considered a cake walk compared to coal mining! When I think of what your friend endoured...he had to be one tough individual. Enjoy the new coat, Brother!
You captured his spirit well, Karen! Vote!
