Hissy Kitty

West Virginia

So sweet but so wild. This feral 4 week old kitten lives under my trailer in a network of wooden beams. I've been hearing it since its birth but could never find it until its mother was shot by a neighbor. It was forced out of hiding by hunger.

I bring it food which it accepts after much growling, spitting and posturing. It allows me to watch it eat but I must sit very still or it growls. It has yet to emerge from its dark damp home. I've put a box with a towel in it for it to sleep in but I don't think it quite trusts it.

Outstanding capture--and I imagine it must not have been easy. Beautiful portrait, GMV.

Excellent shot and those eyes are so pretty. To bad it can not be tamed or at least spayed or neutered.

Superb pet picture. Cats are so independent, I expect she'll be fine

If the kitty is still very young you can still change the "feralness" by risking some scratches and handling it a whole lot...beautiful eyes on that cat!

Its looks hide a ferrocouse nature.

Adorable little kitty.

this is so sad that something so young should have to fend for itself

Such pretty eyes; it is a shame it cannot be tamed and spayed or neutered.

What a cute little guy Karen and excellent shot. I saved a kitten on a dark and stormy night a long time ago. The mother led me to the kitten. That kitten became the light of my life. I only had him a couple of years but I still miss him. This was a picture I took of him right after I got my second computer in 1994. http://www.pbase.com/char/image/38675949

He looks skinny and and bit anxious. The cat is really a pet who stays very close to its wild state!

Yes Karen, I too knew someone who was able to somewhat tame a wild kitten...she fed the cat daily on the front porch. In time the cat came to trust this woman....so never give up. You did a gorgeous job on this portriat.

What beautiful eyes! Excellent shot!

Karen, excellent job on this portrait. Don't know how you did it. I had a friend in Princeton who had the same problem. She persistently fed and sat with the cat (it was an adult)and eventually it grew to trust her. This kitten is so young, with patience and time, you may be able to do the same. Don't give up. Please keep us updated.

Such beautiful eyes too. I agree with Sheila that it's such a shame.

How sad that it is wild.
What a little beauty it is, astonishing eyes.
Marvelous portrait Karen, you really know how to use your camera.

Like you said, "deceptively loveable".
Those marvelous eyes see a world we could never even imagine.
It must not have been easy to get this shot. But you did a great job with it.
Please check-in from time to time with updates on this kitty and updates on Karen, too.
