I'm speechless. Also a WVA transplant. Yeah, oh well...don't hold your breath that anything will change soon!

Wonderful insight into Athens.
In our town you used to have to say, you had a gun and were going to kill someone before the sherrifs would show up. Things have improved somewhat.

I think dazedbegone is on to something..... always check the donut shops :-) How strange the whole thing is. A strange building for a strange situation. Hope your friend's ok.

It seems like a lot of police building for a ghost cop and what an unusual design. If such a thing with the police were to happen in my town, well, there would be all kinds of letters into the "Last Word", the-bitch-section section of the town paper. Not all of the letters would be informed of course, some folks just like to have a cause to write. :)

Hmmm ... not especially comforting, now .. is it?
I'm guessing there's not a whole lot of crime in Athens!

Hmmm.... I bet there's a whole lot of citizens who keep the peace without the absentee law officer...

There is such a variety of photos on PAD. Some seem content to highlight the scenery. Some enjoy sharing their portraits. Some do a lot of Photoshopping. Some find the most interesting patterns and hidden "things" in the natural world. I keep coming back to yours as you also like commenting, both with your photos and through words, on life in your very interesting, and probably unique, corner of this country. Those of us who get caught up in the "modern" race could easily forget that a more simple life still exits. Thanks for reminding me of that.

No radios in Athens? Donut shops?

I agree, interesting commentary to go along with a photo of an architecturally strange building! It looks like the top part might fall off.

Interesting story and an interesting building. Lots of little details on it. When was it built? Was it always a police station?

I will have to look for this town on a map. Is it very remote from your county seat?

Yes they do, Danny. LOL. But more importantly (at least here :) a pharmacy. The pharmacist was robbed at knife point a month ago for oxycontins.

The State Police caught him on the interstate. I'll bet at that point he didn't care though. LMAO.
