Iceland has a land mass of 103,000 sq. km. and is situated between the North Atlantic and Arctic Ocean. Has a population of about 320,000 with two third living in Reykjavik and its surrounding area. The first settlers to this massive island are Norwegian who also ruled Iceland at one time.
Iceland is geologically a "young land" with a subpolar oceanic climate along its coast line. The only native land mammal before the arrival of humans are the Arctic foxes. Three quarter of its land is barren of vegetation and plant life is mainly grassland.
