OK, I had 6 bulbs (15 cents each). The first two broke after several tries, I was wondering how much force was needed, these things are surprisingly resistant. Due to the large force needed, these bulbs were broken to many very tiny pieces. But I learned the trick: the bulbs should be scratched before hitting it with the hammer. Then, much smaller force is enough to break them and the broken glass remains in larger pieces - which is more appealing.
